Zack's reply

Zack (see previous post) replied:

"It's not just that there is a North and South campus. That implies that both are the same, but in this case they aren't. Christians don't hold the same beliefs as the Church of LDS. Jesus never talked about humans being able to work their way up to becoming Gods one day. Christians don't believe we came to live in Earth as spirit babies of God as do LDS. Jesus never taught us that we would still be married in Heaven and populate our own planets. Our religions are very different. We do not believe in the same Jesus Christ. And I don't know too much about LDS, but I can't imagine Jesus would come to the Americas, tell people the 'real' religion here that would contradict everything he previously taught. Why would he reveal a completely new religion to be founded by Joseph Smith?"

It sounds like you have not read the Book of Mormon, which is what this "two campus" discussion is about. You are correct, Jesus never talked about any of those things in the Book of Mormon. He repeated the same things he said in the New Testament to the people in the Americas. It was the same teachings by the same person in two different locations. He truly did establish two "campuses", neither of which exist in their original state anymore according to Latter-day Saint belief. He also didn't say any of those things to Joseph Smith, or to any other prophets or church leaders. These things about "spirit babies" and "working our way to become gods" or "populating our own planets" are caricatures, not true Latter-day Saint doctrines. We believe we are children of God (Rom 8:16, Eph 4:6) and mankind is His creation (Gen 1:27). Nowhere does it say "spirit babies", only that He is the Father of spirits (Heb 12:9), which we all have (Job 32:8). We believe that as His children, we become joint-heirs with Christ (Rom 8:17) and have the potential to become "like" Him - that is, we may become immortal beings living eternally (John 3:16). We cannot achieve that eternal life through "working our way up", but only through the atoning grace of Jesus Christ (Rom 6:23, 1John 5:11), which transforms us to His image (2 Cor 3:18) if we allow it. And as this channel has addressed.... nothing about having our own planets. Now, I do agree that popular Christianity today is not the same as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but I think you'll need to do a little bit more research before you understand where those differences lie. I encourage you to start getting your information about Latter-day Saints beliefs from actual Latter-day Saints. It's okay to disagree, but at least disagree with things we actually believe and teach rather than distortions peddled by our detractors.
